Juan’s work recalibrates our senses to acknowledge America’s racial atrocities. A son of undocumented parents who became legal residents, the meaning of his work begin with Mexican labor and it’s commercialization and hyper(in)visibility. He morphs back and forth from activist to ceramist, where his sculptures are decorated with laborious poitellism paintings that encapsulate the longing to be safe, heard, and be loved.
