Anthony’s works are arrangements of activities, a reorganization of molecules from a sentimental headspace that transcends into the macro we are familiar with; meloncholy augmentations of lovely poetics. What I am drawn to most about his works, are the notes both musical and pyscological that influence his intuition in the studio. In a statement about his recent show and MFA Thesis, Do you want to go dancing at the University of Arkansas, he reveals that his work he aims to “provoke ideas of distance, intimacy, and vulnerability, and how these feelings fluctuate within the audience’s own psyche.” Putting me in a headspace similar to when I listen to Santo & Johnny, or watch a movie by Jonathan Entwistle, I feel nostalgic for experiences and relationships I never had, and maybe never will. I’m comforted by the law of confinement in which I’ve set for myself as a paramter within his work, and look at these collectivley as ways to oscillate back to more somber and innocent versions of myself.
